30 Days
What will you be doing for the next 30 days? If I were to ask you to write down your plans for the next month, the list would probably consist largely of the same things mine would - working, going to church, maybe a weekend out of town with the in-laws, etc. Although we will all have plenty of opportunities to impact somebody else’s life in the next 30 days, few of us will have the chance to make quite as much of a difference as our dear friend Jarred Minefee. Between taking the various trips here and there to say goodbye to friends and family, running to the store for last-minute supplies, and checking (and rechecking) all of his gear, Jarred was kind enough to speak with me on his plans for the next month. I’m happy to say that I was both excited and challenged by Jarred’s plans to make a difference in Haiti for the next few weeks and I hope to extend that experience to all those who read this post.
Jarred, a Physician Assistant from Physician Network Services here in Lubbock not only understands the Great Commission, but is living it out right now in the nation of Haiti. He has chosen to offer his own personal finances, his time, and his knowledge as a skilled Physician Assistant to directly impact the lives of people all over the nation of Haiti. Having recently returned from a trip (March 10 - 17) Jarred knew that God wasn’t finished with him in Haiti and wasted no time getting back to finish what he had helped start. Partnering with New Vision Haiti, Jarred will be going into the remote areas of the country and establishing 10 clinics in various churches and schools affiliated with Dr. Kerry Reeves & New Vision Ministries. During his previous trip, he was able to help establish 2 clinics in the more heavily trafficked areas of the country, but this time he will be helping set up clinics in areas not often visited by outsiders with a small team of 4 or 5 individuals. As they ride horseback for often hours at a time Jarred, Dr. Kerry, and the rest of their team with be able to reach those with illnesses that would otherwise have no hope of medical treatment or attention. Jarred will also be working with multiple fisherman villages and churches supported by New Vision and spending time playing with children in the orphanages of Haiti.
During my talk with Jarred, he expressed to me numerous times the strong desire he has to not only help the sick and needy of Haiti, but also to stand with Dr. Kerry and New Vision Ministries and provide them with all of the support they need to keep their promises and reach as far as they possibly can into the poor and hungry nation of Haiti.
In addition to partnering directly with New Vision Ministries, Jarred also plans on working as a helicopter medic for a few days as well as volunteering with Medishare at the University of Miami in Port-au-Prince.
When I asked Jarred why he chose spending 30 days in Haiti right now, he very confidently responded, “We all gotta go where the Lord calls us, and for me, that’s Haiti right now. I’m always trying to think of how I can better serve the Lord, and when I got this opportunity, it just clicked.” Between Jarred’s love for travel, his medical skills, and his passion to be the hands and feet of our Father, I can’t think of a single place where Jarred would be better suited.
I plan to retain contact with Jarred as he travels across the nation of Haiti and will be posting updates on here as I am able to speak with/hear from him. Please remember Jarred each and every day in your hearts and prayers and don’t hesitate to contact Operation Hope if you would like to send a message along to our dear brother. Thank you for partnering with us in reaching the nation of Haiti and God Bless!
