2016 Banquet Recap
Each year, Operation HOPE holds an event to update all of our supporters on the progress being made in Haiti, Iraq, and right here in the US, and to provide them with even more opportunities to invest in these wonderful people. In years past, speakers have included our founder Dr. John Thomas, Pittsburgh Steeler Baron Batch, Former Atlanta Braves Pitcher John Smoltz, Lt. Col. Oliver North, Actor/Director/Producer Kirk Cameron, Dr. Ben Carson, and most recently, Tim Brown. Below are the details for this year's event.
Tim Brown - Keynote Speaker for the Tenth Annual Operation HOPE Banquet
The Tenth Annual Operation HOPE Banquet was held on March 19, 2016 at the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center. We welcomed author, Heisman Trophy winner, & NFL Hall-of-Famer Tim Brown as our keynote speaker for this year’s event. Once again, the Operation HOPE was a huge success bringing in over $95,000 of net profit so we can go out and reach the hurting of this world.
The banquet started with Carl Toti, Senior Pastor at Trinity Church in Lubbock giving the invocation. We were honored to have such a distinguished member of our community spend the evening with us, and pray over our event. Our founder, Dr. Thomas also shared a few encouraging words thanking everyone for their support.
Once again, we held a live auction including a high powered rifle, sports memorabilia, a fantastic turkey hunt, two tickets to the Super Bowl, and a set of braces from Wentz Orthodontics here in Lubbock. In addition to the live auction items, banquet attendees had the opportunity to bid on a number of silent auctions as well. Between the two auctions alone, Operation HOPE was able to raise over $39,000.
This year, we welcomed Dyron Howell to the Operation HOPE Banquet to share a little more about the organization he founded, SnackPak4Kids. Operation HOPE has supported SnackPak for the past couple of years and we were honored to have Mr. Howell express exactly how our wonderful supporters have been able to provide meals and opportunities for kids all across Texas & the South Plains.
Tim Brown won the Heisman Trophy at Notre Dame and starred in the NFL for seventeen seasons. Recently inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, Tim left the game as a Los Angeles and Oakland Raiders legend and one of the most respected men in sports. “Mr. Raider” shared with banquet attendees his amazing journey, the triumphs, the heartbreaks, the struggles, and God as well as the principles and priorities that made him the man he is today.
